Based on Akira Kurosowa’s cinematic masterpiece and set in a bayou in post-nuclear America, the Rashomon tale begins with an unlikely gathering of a Priest, a Woodcutter, and a Wigmaker (who uses the hair of corpses to ply his trade) beneath Rashomon Gate as their surroundings are engulfed in a brutal storm. The Priest and Woodcutter are still in shock, having attended a murder trial the day before in which testimony is given about a samurai who had been found brutally stabbed within a grove. The prime suspect is the infamous Tajomaru, a bandit of the region. The drama revolves around the debate of whom to believe because every suspect and victim (including the Samurai’s Ghost) had a completely different story to tell. Rashomon digs deep into the human ego, and explores how we recreate the past to fulfill our own desires.
