Summary: Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bring together the historical figures of the four successful assassins of U.S. presidents and five more who attempted to assassinate a president. In a thoughtful, provoking, and often funny ninety-minute musical, Sondheim and Weidman muse on American rights and freedoms and how these assassins felt they were denied rights and turned those feelings violently toward a national stage. The show also demonstrates how America’s violent criminals study and copycat earlier crimes, especially in shootings, and prefer notoriety to invisibility, as the nine assassins interact in the fictional stage space.

Cast: Will Snyder as John Wilkes Booth; Patrick Jones as Charles Guiteau; Rocky Nardone as Leon Czolgosz; Jacob Anspach as Giuseppe Zangara; Brett Hammes as Lee Harvey Oswald and Balladeer; Josh DeBell as Sam Byck; Annie Levine as Squeaky Froome; Kelsey Roberts as Sarah Jane Moore; Ben Bernstein as John Hinckley; Tristan Strasser as Proprietor; Kat Berton as Emma Goldman and others; Carl Treiber as David Herold and others; Mick Elliott as Billy Moore and others; and Sydney Lyons as Housewife and others.

Jan 31 @ 7:00 pm

The winter show for Geneseo Community Players is THE SUNSHINE BOYS by legendary comedy writer Neil Simon! The play centers around two retired vaudville performers who worked together for over forty years, but haven’t spoken in over a decade. Will they reunite for one last performance or will old disagreements keep them apart? The script is clever, fun and absolutely hilarious!

Auditions for THE SUNSHINE BOYS will be held at York Central School on Monday, December 16 at 7:00 PM. Nothing to prepare ahead of time.

The SUNY Geneseo Department of Music presents a guitar faculty recital by Ken Luk on Friday, January 31 at 7:30 PM in the Doty Recital Hall.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ken studied with Dr. Nicholas Goluses and finished his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music. This first half of the recital will feature solo guitar works of the Brazilian musical tradition, and the second half will feature Trio Ghidorah – a classical guitar trio formed by Dr. Luk and two fellow Eastman graduates – Dr. Erik Gibelyou and Dr. Bernardo Marcondes Rodrigues. The trio will perform compositions and arrangements from the classical canon, contemporary works, and Latin American music.

SUNY Geneseo Wind Quintet @ Doty Recital Hall
Feb 9 @ 3:00 pm

Join the Geneseo Wind Quintet on Sunday, February 9th at 3:00 pm in Doty Recital Hall for our spring concert featuring an airy and animated keyboard music program! Colorful transcriptions for the core woodwind quintet members of keyboard works by Bach and Beethoven will precede Poulenc’s tour de force, Sextour, featuring SUNY Geneseo Instrumental Collaborative Pianist, Kurt Galvan.

Enamored with the remarkable instrumental concertos of Antonio Vivaldi, J.S. Bach absorbed the essence of Vivaldi’s clever melodic shaping and confident contrasts between tutti and solo sections as he delved into his own adaptations of the very same music he revered. Bach’s Concerto for Organ No. 2 in A minor, BWV 394, is an adaptation of Vivaldi’s famous Concerto for Two Violins in A minor, RV 522, No. 8, and the Geneseo Wind Quintet lends its colorful timbres to one more degree of transformation, in Mordechai Rechtman’s arrangement of Bach’s work. Felix Skowronek’s transcription of L. van Beethoven’s cheery Pieces for Mechanical Organ for wind quintet, creatively displays the clock-like time and colors of characteristic wooden and metal pipes associated with the 18th century mechanical instrument. To close the program, pianist Kurt Galvan will join the quintet members for a rousing performance of a piece composed in 1931 and continually revised for a decade during a period of wartime anguish, Poulenc’s Sextour.

The Wind Quintet members: Andrew Brown, clarinet; Megan Kyle, oboe; Maura McCune Corvington, horn; Martha Sholl, bassoon; Kathryn Scarbrough flute

Limelight & Accents Performing Arts Series 2019 – 2020

A truly down to earth, working man’s Celtic band, Gaelic Storm continues to tour 200 days a year even after 20 years of success. They attribute their success to their fanatic audience, coming from bluegrass roots, the storytelling as well as the band’s love for the very instruments they play with.
