Opening of Concurrent Exhibitions – Alison Weld: Earthly Abstract / Selected Figure Drawings and Watercolor Painting @ Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery at SUNY Geneseo
Sep 4 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Alison Weld, From the Forests to the Fields, oil on linen, 2019

Exhibition Dates:
September 4 – October 12, 2019

Alison Weld: Earthly Abstract

Alison Weld paints abstractly and the works in this exhibit encompass several different series of works. However, each series is a visual plastic treatise on the organic. That is, from considerations of nature, the Adirondack landscape, forests, stars, clouds, day/night, color, and music. Weld considers her work to be “declarations of beauty.” Paintings like Silent Music of Time and Color of Time, are vertical oriented and allude to the human figure. Yet, she writes, “the color captures the earthly abstract,” meaning, nature has been reoriented, transformed; natures elements are mixed and matched. Weld is committed to the idea of “abstraction as visual philosophy” and the paintings “surface as a film,” layer of the conscious.  For her, these two concepts “articulate my sense that at the core of my art is an effort to think about, understand, and express how I experience myself and the world.”

During Weld’s career of forty plus years, she has exhibited extensively in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions and the South East. Institutions include University of Maine Museum of Art, Bangor, Roland Gibson Gallery, at SUNY Potsdam, Radford University Museum, VA, Art Museum of the University of Memphis, TN, Rider University Art Gallery, NJ, Robert Steele Gallery, NY, Ben Shahn Gallery, William Paterson University, NJ,  and many others.
