Canandaigua, NY artist Jeanne Beck will exhibit new art work in a solo exhibit at SUNY Geneseo’s Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery. Beck’s work is well known in Rochester and Buffalo. Until recently she had a studio in Rochester in the Hungerford building and is a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists.
Beck’s new abstract paintings are a shift in her use of form and color. She has moved away from the metallic colors of series like the Book of the Ancients to more personal and expressive content. In this series “Painting Lessons,” Beck allowed her painting process to dictate her color use, gesture, form, and content. In a large way she reveals that the state of our country forced her to “find my center again through my art practice.” That she as an individual could “create more compassion and tolerance” in the world through her art.
Beck’s artwork engages the viewer by exciting the eye with color and movement. Beck has exhibited in juried exhibits from Buffalo and Rochester to North Carolina. She has won several awards including best in show at Rochester’s Arts and Cultural Council and JGK Galleries. Beck’s work is private and public collections including the MacVittie Student Union on the SUNY Geneseo campus. Beck’s new studio and the Jeanne Beck Art Gallery offers exhibit opportunities and workshops to other area artists.
Exhibitions are free and open to the public. We look forward to your visit to the gallery.
